The new iPad: hot according to users
Monday, April 2, 2012 at 4:21PM The amount of negative press being thrown at the new iPad is quite amazing. It also seems that the only people not heaping negativity on it are those who actually own one.
Yahoo! has published a video showing how hot the iPad gets compared to other objects in their offices. It is a conclusive video summing up, but then Consumer Reports has now rated it as the best tablet available following their link-baiting article a coupld of weeks back about the heat issue. And a new survey from ChangeWave Research shows that 98% of new iPad owners are either very or somewhat satisfied.
So, despite all of the negativity it seems as though the new iPad is loved by people who own it. Can't think why. Oh yes, it's because the iPad 2 and new iPad are by far the best tablets available.

I can't say I've noticed it getting hot at all. I do notice the extra weight and the very slow charging time, however, but there are fine trade-offs for the overall package, which is very good indeed.
I suppose next year's iPad will slim down again and move to quad-core power, although it doesn't seem exactly short on oomph at the moment. The biggest tribute I can pay to is that it feels just like the iPad 2, despite having to move four times as much screen real-estate.
For those who are interested, I'm developing a game for the iPad and iPhone at the moment. One background image (bigger than the screen, I admit) is 3.76Mb for iPad 2 and a whopping 13Mb for iPad 3 in native detail. And there are more than 20 of those in the game, which means it is likely to include to need around 350Mb just in graphical assets, before sound, music and coding has been included. And that's just iPad. Include iPhone screens too and doubt it will be under 500Mb!
No surprise users are happy. If people are already happy with the iPad (2) than surely they'll be happy with something just a tad better. It'd be interesting to see what they upgraded from or whether they're first time buyers if you know what I mean. It might give an idea of where they're coming from in terms of their praise... It would also be interesting to know if these people are normal users, or the typical Apple fanboys. Obviously meaning that if they're normal users their praise or lack of it would mean something. If it came from fanboys/girls it means buggar all I suppose.
I wouldn't swap my Prime for a 'New iPad'. I've recommended iPads to other people as they're the best choice for them, but they're not for me.
One man's steak is another man's dead animal flesh...
Happy with my iPad 1 - insufficient in the iPad 3 to justify the cost of the upgrade.
Not to mention that other tablets, including the Transformer, also run just as hot:

So a non issue all round really
I had been playing with an iPad2 and this week I got the chance to play with the iPad3 (!). Honestly, there's no difference. The great thing about the iPad3 is that everything was ported just fine with iCloud and iTunes. Other than that it's the same thing. The image is superb, but nothing spectacular coming from the iPad2. What I notice is the pixels on those icons not in HD. And lot of updates... for resolution matters, I guess.
I folow Bug Blatter's ideal "I've recommended iPads to other people as they're the best choice for them, but they're not for me."
I am going to buck the trend here - I recently bought an iPad 3 to replace my first generation iPad and think it's an amazing upgrade. Okay, one reason is that I have bought a 4G version, whereas my original was wifi only and that could occasionally be frustrating. The main reason is the retina display, though - I read a lot of academic papers, and the pdf rendering (particularly of diagrams) is incredible. I no longer have to constantly zoom in and out to view diagrams and minute text and it's a real pleasure to use. It is slow to charge, but the battery is good enough that it doesn't need it that often, so what's the big deal?
Those of you who know me here, will know that I am not a blind fanboy btw :)
