Question: Surface?
Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 3:00AM What were your initial impressions of Microsoft’s Surface tablet? It looked quite good to me and using the Surface name is a smart move. I suspect that initially it will present more competition to Apple’s competitors than the iPad, but wouldn’t be surprised to see it do very well in the long run. If only they could bring the true Surface technology to the tablet- that would be incredible.

It would seem sensible, having drooled over the first iphone on initial sight, but then found it seriously wanting on spec, that I've decided to opt for cautious optimism for the Surface. Oh, who am I kidding? I'm fired up and can't wait to get a proper look at it.
I'm intrigued by the cover/keyboard idea, and suddenly it seems odd that it isn't the norm. I very much suspect there's a whole lot more involved than I understand.
I think the RT version will be successful with business users if Microsoft can get these devices integrated with corporate IT.
Depends how well they do with the pricing but I'm pretty fired up about this... will no doubt have my credit card in hand on launch day....
It looks interesting, if only to give Apple some competition. It will depend on how the OS holds up. I do like the cover/case. In fact I have something similar for my iPad on order from NewTrent. But remember, it's competing against the new iPad with "retina" display.
Fingers crossed that this is a good product and becomes successful. There is some real cutting edge design thinking here and it looks great.
My only concern is that the full-fat Intel version will slow down over time as 'proper' apps write thousands of registry entries and litter files around the place. It's the curse of Windows and will look bad on a tablet form factor.
It does appear to be an Ultrabook being a launch vehicle for Windows 8. So comparing it to other tablets may not be accurate, although that may be the market that it is targeted against.
When specifications are released, it should get more interesting, but undoubtedly, it may be expensive.
So for those who like the "Metro" interface, it should be the ideal device.
I hate touching my computer screen ( I have enough trouble with dust without adding fingerprints as well ) so this is a non-starter for me, and despite having a USB socket, I don't think that plugging a mouse in is what they had in mind.
Can I say it - Transformer!
