Potential Note owners?

Good question from Paul today.

This is aimed at Galaxy Note owners and people actively considering it

How much do you / would you use the stylus?

* I use it a lot, as much or more than I expected
* I use it a lot but less than I expected
* I use it regularly, as much or more than I expected
* I use it regularly, less than I expected
* I use it infrequently, as much or more than I expected
* I use it infrequently, less than I expected
* I'm thinking about buying a Note and would expect to use the stylus a lot
* I'm thinking about buying a Note but wouldn't expect to use the stylus a lot

If I get a Note 2, I would expect to use the stylus a lot.

It was all about that big screen for me (original Note) and I don't use the stylus at all....

I use more than I did when I had the Note I. I am waiting for my 4G Note to arrive before I invest too much time in creating content on my 3G version.

When I had a Note I used the stylus rarely, but when I did use it it was handy. The Note 2 is a totally different machine in that the stylus is far more natural and integrated. So I could use it more. If I didn't have any tablets etc this would be what I would use. At the moment it's in no mans land. When I had it, my boss laughed at its size.

I had the original Note and the now have the Note 2. I use the stylus all the time, I take notes on everything...

The advances Samsung have made with the S-note software are fantastic. For people who rely on their notes they are value-adding, unlike some of the other updates that Samsung (and others, to be fair) do, which sometimes seem to be more about allowing users to showboat...

The original Note is now one of the most popular phones where I work, as people see what can be done when they switch from paper notes to electronic ones. One of my Project Managers has just switched to the Note 10.1 for the same reason so it seems like the stylus is making a real comeback.

Thanks for taking the time to answer, everybody.

I currently use a keyboarded android phone, my 2nd such.

Before I adopted android, I had a Nokia E71, also with a keyboard, which replaced a Nokia E65, and I used a Nokia n800 "tablet" which had a stylus, and before a Nokia 770 which had a stylus. And a Zaurus which had stylus and keyboard.

So I guess I am addicted to devices which offer a lot of fine control (stylus) and rapid input with a keyboard, and don't want to have to put up with onscreen keyboards without tactile feedback.

My gf's answer is: "I use it regularly, as much or more than I expected".

She enters quite a bit of text using the surprisingly good built-in text recognition.

She's also been doodling using the same app as the guy in that video Shaun posted.

She's produced some simple diagrams and mind-maps for work as well.

The whole point of the note for an effective work tool Which is not that possible (at least not for me). The stylus is a pain in the ass. Too small to write out draw with. And the "meet me here" doodles in the Samsung adverts are just not practical in reality. Why send a scribbled map when you could just email a google map link directly?

Samsung seems to have a pretty good Galaxy Note 2 stands in the Carphone Warehouse stores near me, so its should be easy enough to see whether the stylus is something you'd use or not. Drawing isn't my forte (I have all the creative skills of a stunned tortoise) but some of the Idea Sketch tools allow me to build quite complex infographics to get across technical concepts to non-technical users.

If the size of the Note 2 is an issue (i.e. its too small for you to be creative on) I have to say that I've been quite impressed with the Note 10.1 - in particular the palm rejection tech, which is nothing short of brilliant. For me though, the Note (original and 2) have replaced a paper notebook and needs to be of a size that I can always have it with me.
