Missing out
Saturday, September 22, 2012 at 2:59AM Yesterday was a strange day. I was expecting a review iPhone 5 to arrive, but the mobile operator in question let me down. It should arrive on Monday now and that is of course not a problem. However, the sense of missing out is quite strong and I find that strange considering I am supposed to be an adult.
This is Apple’s killer feature; the way the company has built up such a buzz around the iPhone and iPad that people queue for days, they awake in the middle of the night to pre-order and some will pay ludicrous amounts of money to buy one from eBay and other places. If you don’t have one, it is all too easy to feel like you are missing out.
It’s completely illogical because it is after all just a phone, but the further we go into this process the more people feel it. The sense that they ‘have to have it’ no matter what can be overwhelming for some and they will pay to lose that feeling. I don’t understand it and I cannot reationalise it, but I felt it for a brief time yesterday.
UPDATE: the iPhone turned up at 5pm yesterday...
