It's all about me
Friday, July 20, 2012 at 2:59AM Paul M. suggested in an email this week that we should have a get-together for Lost In Mobile readers who want to speak in person to those they converse with every day. While I think it is a good idea, I don't think it is viable because we all live so far away from each other. Many of you in America, some in Canada, a good proportion in the UK and many in Europe. As you can see, it isn't viable.

I may set up a conference style call so that people can speak and also work out some prizes for those who join. There is a genuine spirit on Lost In Mobile that you don't see on most sites. Most community websites contain constant bitching about Android, Apple and the like and it ruins the whole atmosphere.
So, let's try to stop it going that way because it has been over the past few weeks. I am the main man around here and can see the benefits of both iOS and Android, and also the negative points of both. I do not have a preference for either, I genuinely don't, and don't understand some of the high emotions that surface when it comes to something as unimportant as a mobile phone. So, as your leader I command you all to be sensitive to the opinions of others.
Please don't think this whole website thing has gone to my head...

Too funny, Shaun. I'd be up for a call.
Conference call sounds good.
But then again it would sound good.
How about an online chat?
I am like Neil. I would love a chat. Calls can get expensive or can be hard to get because of times and signal strength. In fact, it would be awesome if we had a monthly chat! Can you imagine the readers of Lost in Mobile coming together once a month to chat. Show me a website community that does that!
"as your leader I command you all to be sensitive to the opinions of others." - Yes, Master :-/
Yeah, the chat room/service would be just great. We could actually talk live about our ideas.
Sensitivity. What a concept!
Gavin - groan.
An online chat would be fun. Pick a topic or two and discuss.

Not quite real-time, but close
LOL thanks for the reminder kick up the backside great leader!
would be up for either.
Wow, that was fast "http://www.lostinmobile.com/chat/". Or was is there all the way and we all missed it?
There you go: Wow. My last "Wow" moment ;-)
Or was is there all the way and we all missed it?
It's been there for some time — but it's a forum, rather than a chatroom, which I think was what we were hoping for :)
I only reactivated it today after this discussion. Took it away ages ago due to lack of interest. Will have a look around for proper chatroom software- recommendations?
Yeah cool, count me in.
When it comes to 'bitching' there's a fair bit of good-natured banter about Android and iOS. I do quite a bit of that and I don't think anyone's taken it the wrong way. I also say where Android needs to learn from iOS, e.g. avoiding fragmentation.
I also often praise the way Apple reinvigorated a stagnant smartphone market, and tablets too.
However if I can't voice my genuine opinions about Apple's behaviour in relevant posts then this isn't the place for me. I also criticise Google and Microsoft when it's warranted.
I'm not sure whether it's the banter you take exception to or the criticism of Apple's behaviour. I can understand you don't want fanboys here, but who here comes across as a fanboy?
