Insurance?

Is your phone insured specifically, either through your mobile contract or a specific gadget contract, or do you rely on your house insurance? Thanks to Paul.

The phone, like most objects we own is covered under the Household contents insurance. No need for an additional policy.

No additional insurance.

My gf's Galaxy S was insured separately at her previous bf's insistence. She says it was a complete waste of money, although it's apparently not why they broke up.

And what's the betting that if you tried to claim on separate insurance that they'd either tell you to claim on the home insurance or at least split the cost with the other insurer.

Same as David. Just cover properly under your home insurance.

Separate covers are a waste of money.

home insurance....

But saying that I have never needed to use my home insurance or any other insurance other than car insurance.

The phone is covered as a personal possession by my home insurance. My carrier has coverage for breakage.

My bank account covers mobiles, gadgets, travel insurance and breakdown cover for less than I used to pay for mine & my wife's mobiles

Nope nothing... I'm careful in an anal sorta way, though not as much as used to be. My ex had her iphone stolen, but the insurance she was paying for said that since it wasn't violent, and she didn't go to the police it wasn't covered. She's now using my old S which I gave to my daughter who used it to play games, listen to music and take photos.

Careful about the 'free' travel insurance guys. Typically doesn't cover pre-existing medical conditions or re-patriation. Not sure if it would cover, say, a lost £500+ smartphone.
