HP: We Have to Ultimately Offer a Smartphone

Believe it or not, HP will eventually build a new smartphone according to Fox News. Some of the early HP Windows Mobile phones were quite good, but they did much better on the PDA side. What the company needs to do now is buy a really efficient and good looking operating system, put some decent hardware around it and compete with iOS and Android. Something like webOS would be good. Oh...

HP's a broken company; nothing they do will amount to anything.

To be fair MS is pretty broken and occasionally manages to do something good, but HP just seems beyond hope. I guess they might fluke the odd thing, but getting a mobile OS right needs commitment and lots of good decisions and I don't think they're capable of that.

HP do have a tool with WebOS. And they actually can build good hardware. But will they do it? I don't know... the mobile market is a mess right now and one has to think twice before committing to it.

Maybe they will try something.

I hope it will be a new WebOS device. Fired up a HP Pre 3 last week and although it's an unfinished product the OS is very...very promising

It'd be better if they just sold WebOS to someone who could do something with it.

If Nokia realises the danger it's in hitching its wagon exclusively to Windows Phone then they could probably do something good with it. I don't think they have the freedom to do that unfortunately.
