Games consoles to become a niche?
Monday, October 15, 2012 at 2:20AM The console market is always going to be with us, because there’s always going to be a hardcore segment, a segment that likes innovation. But it’s going to become a smaller market, and it’s going to be more like a hobby market. You look at airplanes. Most of us just want to be a passenger, but there’s a hobby market for people who are really into aviation and want to take flying lessons and maybe someday have their own airplane. I think that’s what’s happening to the console market. More at IGN.
Those are the words of Trip Hawkins and I am not sure if I see this happening or not. Somehow, I believe there will always be a huge market for the best quality games available and they will never be on smartphones and tablets.

For a long time the best quality games by a long way (visually) have been on PCs, and yet that's become fairly niche compared to the consoles.
Good enough is good enough for most people.
I've been playing Dead Trigger on the TV with my PS3 controller (all via my Prime) and it's been a lot of fun. I've played it more than I've played any console or PC game in quite some time.
