BlackBerry 10 positive vibes

On January 14, we reported that the BlackBerry 10 had garnered 15,000 app submissions in just 36 hours after RIM launched its port-a-thon. Due to the overwhelming response, having received 19,000 submissions over the past weekend, Research in Motion decided to extend the deadline for its event, giving developers more time to get their apps in... More at SlashGear.

Is it me or are there many positive vibes floating around about BlackBerry 10? I really do hope the positivity turns out to be justified.

The final hours of a species can often be their finest.

It may delay the exodus of their remaining customer base, if it rolls out smoothly, but long-term survival will be determined if they can draw back their previously lost enterprise customers, and/or draw in fresh customers.

There are obvious advantages in respect to competition for 4 main players. A bit problematic for 3rd party developers as it makes another platform market to support if they bother to.

Unfortunately these days it doesn't matter how good the hardware and OS is if you don't have the apps and the ecosystem.

And even if you manage to get all those things you're still out of the game if you're seen as an old thing rather than a new thing.

RIM is seen as a hasbeen. Nokia was in the same position and they've struggled mightily to reinvent themselves, with some success and huuuuuuge investment.

I don't think RIM has the resources, the management or the time. Unless someone swoops in to help them (as Microsoft did with Nokia) I can't see them going anywhere but down.

I'd like to see another major player moving things forward and keeping the competition on its toes; I just don't think RIM's that player.

It's strange but true that the most successful Android phone manufacturer is also the one most likely to introduce an OS to challenge both Android and iOS.

mmm... I admit I liked BB10 when they showed some features, but like the general opinion, I don't think they will have that much of success. I would think that if there was only Windows, iOS and Android, but as two more will enter the game soon (Firefox and Ubuntu) it will make it hard for BB10. People will feel divided and with Android devices getting better and better and new iOS devices popping up later on, RIM will have a hard time in the market.
