Android Smartphone Market Share Declines in United States
Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at 5:21PM We have spoken a lot recently about Android eating into iOS in a big way and then Strategy Analytics comes up with a new report showing the opposite picture, at least in the US.

According to the latest research published by Strategy Analytics’ Wireless Smartphone Strategies (WSS) service, smartphone shipments fell 5 percent annually to reach 24 million units in the United States during the second quarter of 2012. The Android operating system lost ground to Apple iOS as Android’s market share fell four points on an annual basis to 56 percent.

Personally I'm seeing more iPhones now than ever before, so I'll bet it's true.
Not sure how many sales of the Galaxy S3 will be showing in that. My feeling is that the the S3 is running the iPhone 4S close in sales, if not currently beating it. Overall, the 4S will sell more units overall, but Samsung are clearly on a tear.
Q3 results will be interesting - I suspect Android will gain back some ground, but Q4 will be owned by the next iPhone.
iPhone sales dip before a new release, Android sales dip before a Galaxy S release.
Assuming these figures are valid; we've often seen different analysts giving wildly different analyses.
If you check the details it specifically states that it doesn't include any S3 sales. Wait until next quarter.
These kind of statistics can have different backgrounds... is it about devices being activated, subscribers? New subscribers, old ones renovating devices, surveys carried out... I believe in numbers, but don't actually believe that much in their source. One can twist results as one likes. Does these numbers reflect the carriers statistics? Because from what I read, it's difficult to have an accurate real number. But I believe these results for now as they look to be forwarded to the press and are the most recent ones.
