Go screw yourself Apple

The words in the title are not mine, honest. They are in fact the words of Lee Brimelow who is a Platform Evangelist at Adobe, and these words have just been posted on TheFlashBlog. Phew!

"Personally I will not be giving Apple another cent of my money until there is a leadership change over there. I’ve already moved most of my book, music, and video purchases to Amazon and I will continue to look elsewhere. Now, I want to be clear that I am not suggesting you do the same and I’m also not trying to organize some kind of boycott. Me deciding not to give money to Apple is not going to do anything to their bottom line. But this is equivalent to me walking into Macy’s to buy a new wallet and the salesperson spits in my face. Chances are I won’t be buying my wallets at Macy’s anymore, no matter how much I like them.

Now let me put aside my role as an official representative of Adobe for a moment as I would look to make it clear what is going through my mind at the moment. Go screw yourself Apple.

Even without checking the article I assume this about the new rule that code written that uses non-Apple APIs and non-approved development langauages are not allowed to be sold on the market place??

It is pretty silly that they ban 3rd party APIs, though if the 3rd party supplies source with thie APIs you can get around it easy enough, though using non approved languages is harder and stupid as they all compile into the same native apps. It does seem to be targetted largely at Adobe (with other companies being collatoral damage) and stopping people compiling AIR/Flash apps for the iphone platform.

Very MS like anti-competitive behaviour in my opinion, though people always seem to excuse Apple for doing things like that, even the same that know darn well it was wrong when MS used to do it.. Seeing Apple getting away with it, MS will probably sink back into the same behaviour (they were getting better)..

There were also other interesting IDEs coming out that you could write ONE application in a common langauage/IDE and it would compile for multiple platforms. So the one code base (or a good part of it) could be used for Iphone, Android and WM apps for example. This would have been a very positive thing IMO, but Apple has put a stop to it now.. They were still a little immature but I was certainly keeping an eye on them as it is (should I say was) a very useful concept.
