1Password: I like the software, not the price
Wednesday, February 29, 2012 at 3:58AM I quite like 1Password on the iPhone and in particular the ability to log in to websites with just two taps. The process to set up new passwords and the interface as of a standard I like to see and for £6.99, I felt that it was good value.

Of course, being able to use this functionality on a desktop would be just as useful and then the price hit me. $49.99! I then discovered that it is also available for the iPhone, but that you have to buy a more expensive version at £10.99 to get universal working with the iPad and iPhone. So, if you own an iPad and want to sync your passwords with your desktop, you are looking at spending more than £40.
Sorry, but the developer seems to have taken the shine off a very good solution by pricing it far too aggressively. Such a shame.

If you Google "1Passwprd voucher" you should find a voucher which will get you 40% off the desktop version - I don't know anyone who has paid full price for 1Password.
Conversely, it is a fantastic piece of software - the time it saves me is considerable. It's roughly the same price as a meal out and, for me, forgoing a meal out and buying 1Password made much more sense than not buying 1Password.
Is the price really do high, given its usefulness?
That price does seem to be exceedingly high in my opinion. I would be reticent to go there.
I have been using SpashID (similar product) through Palm, then Windows Mobile and now Android.
At least it's desktop version is only $19.99, although I had to upgrade to a new version to get the Android sync option from my Palm/WinMob version.
When I went to Android, I did shop around in case there were any better alternatives, but price and the lack of decent database conversion kept me in Splash Data's camp.
When it comes to applications involving my personal data, a desktop option is mandatory, so many applications I have encountered which only sync to cloud or SD Card for backup are useless to me, so if there was no alternative I would probably have to pay, but luckily I didn't have to.
It's possible that SplashData has changed since I last used it, but the real value of 1Password to me is its browser integration — I have not looked to see whether SplashData has this now?
The ease of logging in to websites, without needing to remember usernames and passwords, in just two clicks (once unlocked, during the first time of use in that session), is very welcome indeed — for me, worth the money, without doubt.
@Neil, it may have now. I think I read about that function being available, and there is a Internet Explorer plugin available. There's also a form populate button for each record too. But this is a function that I haven't bothered to use. I just use the field data copy/paste functions.
Opera does it for free and now you can sync your Desktop, phone and pad.
All free all the time.
I know I didn't pay that much. I have 1Password on my MacBook, iPad, and iPhone. Even though I don't use all of it's functionality, it's one of my essentials. One of the reasons I got it in the first place was because of the availability of a full blown version on both Mac and iPhone.
Same here, Bob — and I don't know anyone who's paid full price for it.
I use lastpass.
free on desktop. premium version required for android app isn't expensive. works well.
